I’m a big fan of Pixel devices since Pixel 2 starting with the fan favorite Panda edition in Google Pixel 2XL. My latest Pixel experience is with Pixel 5 which is a great phone with compact form factor, superior build quality and its terrific camera for still photography. I’m going to share my experiences during my use. I will also mention the advantages and disadvantages of this phone below.
What are the 3 reasons to buy Google Pixel 5 in 2022
Below are the top 3 reason for you to consider Pixel 5 in 2022.
- Price has gone down to around $300 – $400 with new Pixel phone releases so it’s at a great price point to buy a premium device like Pixel 5 in 2022.
- One of the Pixel phones with 8gb RAM and a premium build. Pixel 5’s specs are great except the processor but the 90 Hz screen and small form factor are some of its big plus points. You can get few more years of Android OS updates.
- Great Battery Life in Pixel 5 will make you love it even more. This is one of the small pixel phones with excellent battery life. Thanks to the mid range processor which is not power hungry and help with extended battery life.
Display and Processor in Pixel 5
Google Pixel 5 is still an excellent phone with an excellent LED display, 90Hz screen, fantastic battery life and a compact form factor. Its one of the phone with perfect position of its finger print sensor. Only downside I see is with the weaker mid range Processor which may makes the phone lag a little bit while performing certain tasks. Google has removed the additional image processor from this line so pictures may take a second or two to show up after clicking. It’s not a deal breaker but sometimes it frustrates you when you wanted to take continuous shots.
What are Google Pixel 5 Specs
Pixel 5 uses the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G system-on-chip (consisting of eight Kryo 475 cores, Adreno 620 Graphics and Hexagon 696 DSP). It comes with 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128 GB of non-expandable UFS 2.1 internal storage. The Snapdragon 765G allows for standard 5G connectivity; both “sub-6” and millimeter-wave networks are supported.
Pixel 5 has 4080 mAh battery, a significant increase over its predecessor’s 2800 mAh battery. It is capable of fast-charging at up to 18 W, and supports Qi wireless charging as well as reverse wireless charging. This is enabled through a cutout in the back panel for the wireless charging coil, covered by bio-resin. The Pixel 4’s Motion Sense capabilities and facial recognition have been omitted, as well as Active Edge and Pixel Neural Core. Pixel Neural Core’s absence can be felt when the image processing takes a second or two longer.
How Does Pixel 5 compares to Pixel 6A
Google Pixel 5 is over a year old but still its a competent phone in mid range segment. When compared to the newly introduced Google Pixel 6A, this is still very much capable. Compared to new Pixel 6A, we can get the 90 Hz high refresh rate LED Display, 8GB RAM (Pixel 6A has only 6GB), Wireless charging in Google Pixel 5. Tensor chip in Pixel 6A is slightly faster and might get a couple years of additional OS upgrades. But if you consider the price, Pixel 5 can be a great bargain.
Final Thoughts
Pixel 5 features a 6-inch 1080p OLED display with HDR10+ support. Pixel 5’s screen operates at a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz. It dynamically adjusts depending on content to preserve battery life. The display has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and adopts a design aesthetic similar to the Pixel 4a.
This phone has slim uniform bezels and a circular cutout in the upper left hand corner for the front-facing camera. As it has 8GB RAM and a decent processor, it’s expected to perform well at least for next 2 or 3 Android Software Upgrades. Let me know in the comments if you’d still like to buy a Pixel 5 in 2022 and will you even consider it over Pixel 6A for the same price.
