New Samsung Galaxy S22 Models
Samsung has unveiled its 2022’s flagship device Galaxy S22. It comes with 3 models like last year – Galaxy S22(6.1 inch), S22+(6.6 inch) and S22 Ultra(6.8 inch). These three models are priced at $799, $999 and $1199 respectively. Both Galaxy S22 and S22+ is limited to 8GB RAM whereas S22 Ultra comes is 3 variants – 8GB/12GB/16GB.
All models are available for pre-order and expected to get it delivered on Feb 25, 2022. You can also check with your carriers as it’s available with most leading carriers. As part of the pre-order promotion, Samsung is offering enhanced trade-in credit and up to additional $150 of Samsung credit. This credit can be used to buy accessories from Samsung.com.
What’s New in Samsung Galaxy S22
Most of Galaxy S22’s specs are similar to last year’s S21. This year’s S22 comes with a newer 4nm processor Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Adreno 730 Graphics. So you should get some performance boost in processing and graphics intensive tasks. Camera unit got an upgrade with a 50MP Main camera in S22 and S22+ whereas S22 Ultra has a 108MP shooter.
Also there is a slight increase in battery capacity in S22 compared to last year’s S21. Software wise Galaxy S22 comes with Android 12 preinstalled and one UI 4.1 which is the newest Samsung software. S22 comes with a newest Bluetooth 5.2 compared to Bluetooth 5.0 in S21. Battery capacity has been reduced a bit as Samsung slowdown the phone. S22 has a 3700 mAh battery and S22+ has 4500 mAh battery. Initial reports say Samsung S22 battery life is getting a toll with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. So if you are a medium to heavy user, consider getting S22+ or S22 Ultra for a better battery life.
What isn’t changing in S22 compared to Galaxy S21
It has the similar display like last year’s dynamic AMOLED 2X HDR10+ panel with 120Hz refresh rate. S22 comes with 128GB/256GB UFS 3.1 storage and 8GB RAM. Ultra-wide camera is the same as last year’s but the telephone camera is changed in S22 with a 10MP 70mm camera. Front camera doesn’t get any upgrade and it’s the same as Galaxy S21. There is no headphone jack and I doubt if we get it back again as it’s a vintage feature in 2022.
Upgrade Offers on Samsung S22
Samsung usually gives an enhanced trade in credit for its newest lineups. It’s the same this year where you can get up to $700 trade in for Apple devices. Also most of the carriers have some promotions for the new Samsung Galaxy S22 either through trade in or bill credits. Samsung’s enhanced trade in credit usually gets you more bucks for the older phones compared to other manufacturers.
Another interesting offer is from Google Fi where you get $300 off on Samsung S22 (all models) and on top of it you can get a better trade in value from Google Fi. I checked for one of my device and I was offered a $430 of trade in credit and a $300 off on Samsung S22. So I can get the new S22 for an additional $70 by trading my old device.

Should you upgrade to Samsung Galaxy S22
If you already have a Samsung Galaxy S21, it’s not a big upgrade as you will see minor improvements in hardware and Camera. S21 itself is a well crafted device and with Samsung’s 3 years of guaranteed software update, you can still use it for a couple more years. If you are coming from S20 or older generations, it’s a good upgrade to get S22 as you will get a better resale for your older phone. With lot of carriers giving exciting promotions it’s a great buy if you’re looking for a upgrade now.
Let me know your thoughts on Samsung Galaxy S22 or which phone you’re looking for in 2022.
